Magical Elevator

by

Whirlpool State Park and Devil’s Hole State Park are both great hiking areas just north of Niagara State Park. They have picnic areas, good views of the gorge created by the Niagara River, and you can hike down stone steps to get to trails along the river. At one point, Tony says, “I wish there was an elevator back up.” And there is at one at the old power station which we found hilarious. (And we used it…) It took us up almost 300 steps without sweating.

We found where they dry dock the Maid in the Mist boats and we visited an Underground Railroad museum to learn about a local hotel whose workers helped many slaves escape into Canada. Harriet Tubman was also here at one point in her mission.
