We looked at the Harvest Host site and found the Kalona Historical Village on the map. So we traveled to Kalona, Iowa, for our last night stop before driving home. We parked in a field under a big shade tree and toured the museum. It had a beautiful little church, house, other buildings, town museum with high school memorabilia, a barn packed with every imaginable agricultural tool, the Mennonite archives and an Amish and English quilt gallery. You could spend hours here for sure. After our tour, the only place in town still open was the ice-cream parlor which was doing a booming business. Tony had the biggest “size small” blizzard ever, and I had strawberry swirled soft serve. Delicious. The only picture we managed to take in town was of a Hmong story quilt—these are intricate and fascinating.
