30-amp Shore Power Mod (at home)

by

When Usain isn’t out on the highways and byways of the USA, he sits in our driveway. To keep all of his technology cool in the summary he needs the AC on, which requires more power than his batteries can survive on over a number of days. To solve that problem, I installed 30-amp receptacle on the side of our garage.

  1. My Boldt fits in my modified garage and is plugged into a 30 amp garage outlet that my electrician installed. I have a surge protector that I take when I travel, but I never thought about using it here at home. Do you think I should? We have had one power outage while it was plugged in and my home generator kicked on. I sure hope no damage was done to the Boldt or Volta!

    1. I’ve read, but not verified, that the Volta system has its own internal surge protector and if you do use one to make sure it is what’s called a “dumb” surge protector. With that said, I always use a dumb one whether at home or not.
