We stopped at the state historical site after our stay at the Ft. Bridger RV Park, which was a very nice place for us to overnight. The tour of the fort is very interesting. They have marked out on the ground where buildings used to be that are no longer here. Several are still in place and have been restored. The original, small fort has been replicated from drawings and paintings. We stepped out of the large commander’s house to hear cannon fire, followed by a chorus of approval from the school kids watching.

A video we watched discussed the fort with Five M Eras for its history. Mountain Men, Jim Bridger and Louis Vasquez built it. Then the Mormons took over when they accused Bridger of selling alcohol and fire arms to Native Americans. Then the military came during the Utah War and expanded the grounds. After the military closed it, many buildings were moved or dismantled to become part of milk barns or homes. And now, of course, it is a museum. —Lisa
