We walked again to the water’s edge of The Great Salt Lake on Antelope Island. This time we used the official beach site, and the water was a bit nicer quality than where we were last night though there were still pickled bird carcasses lying on the beach. Apparently birds die during migration over the winter, get into the lake and then the cold brine environment pickles them so they stick around when they wash ashore. It’s very shallow; we walked out several yards and the water never reached my knees. We drove to the Buffalo Point Trail which gives some great panoramic views. We also drove along the East Side Ranch Road to the historic Fielding Garr Ranch before driving back across the Davis County Causeway to leave Antelope Island. —Lisa
