Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge Hike, NH

by

Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge is nearby and has several trails available for hiking or biking and winter activities. We walked to Cherry Pond to see the wooden platform lookout. Then we took the shore path through the woods, walked on the railroad tracks, took part of the Rampart Path then crossed over to the Little Cherry Pond Trail.

This gave me ample opportunity to photo some fungi and plants and moth caterpillars. I found two different types of clubmosses growing near each other. These are not mosses, but primitive vascular plants that have been on Earth for hundreds of millions of years. They are small now, but were tree-sized in the fossil record.

Walking along the train tracks, I asked Tony if he’d ever seen a dead body about the time he started singing Stand By Me. Still in Stephen King mode a bit:). The Body is one of his very best novellas that was made into a most excellent movie with the same title as the song.
