Pemaquid Point Lighthouse was our destination for today, and we will stay in Pemaquid Point Campground for two nights. The keepers house is now a museum that has lots of displays about history and tools of the fishing trade of this point. One book documents historical shipwrecks. One bad storm (early 1900s) saw two fishing boats crash on the rocks with only two sailors saved by townspeople risking their own lives. There was paper to record the costs to the town for the rescue. Another document talked about a ship from Ireland wrecking here in the eighteenth century. One young woman and her sister survived a harsh winter stranded here eating frozen oysters when others on board agreed to become indentured servants to pay for passage elsewhere, but this family was left behind. Mom died before the girls were rescued by an Irish salvage ship and reunited with their father in MA. I did some reading while Tony worked in the van:)

We visited the Pemaquid Beach to scope out where we will stay during the day tomorrow. Tony nabbed a picture of me near sunset.
