New Tires for Usain, Manchester, New Hampshire

by

Tony noticed our front tires were wearing unevenly with the insides losing tread. He keeps current on the Boldt Facebook group, and found others saying this “cupping” is a problem with Sprinters made into RVs. Mercedes says the front wheels don’t have the same weight on them, and they “skip” down the road which causes this. “With that big, heavy engine,” wondered Tony? But no matter the cause, it does seem common and we decided to replace the two front tires now. That required a trip to Manchester, New Hampshire to find a dealership. I called a week ago to get the appointment and order the tires.

“You are going to wait for it?” asked the service representative. “Everyone is waiting today.” I told him we really didn’t have a choice as this is our home with no “toad”. I also asked if they had a quiet corner where I could take the cats. Big smile—he has cats, too. We went into the busy waiting room, asked if anyone was allergic to cats (all said “no”), then found the “business center” off to the side which was the perfect quiet spot for the cats to try and relax. We had snacks and drinks available. Primrose was watchful the whole time; Catnip tried to hide under the rug and ignore the situation.

Almost four hours later, we drove to our nearby campground for tonight. We drove for several miles on small, country roads then several more to the campsite. Pawtuckaway State Park is beautiful and is big at 5500 acres! The sites are wooded, and Tony had to work hard to maneuver Usain back into our large campsite. There were trees and rocks to work around. We are staying in the Horse Island camping area in site 44. This particular site would be really hard to back a trailer into even though it is long enough for one. This site is right on the lake which has crystal clear water. There are no hookups, but there are showers in the bathrooms. The campgrounds are along the edge of this park, and the rest is devoted to outdoor fun like hiking trails that take you up a mountain with a fire tower, across a boulder field, through woods and along a marsh. We’ll have to choose one in the morning; we wish we could stay longer.
