It’s laundry day! Yay, and there is a nice little laundry in Ft. Davis so we have a short drive to get there. Besides Tony having to drive back to camp to get Dishy (we have no cell service in town), the washing goes well. A couple of people ask me about Dishy which was sitting in the ground stand beside the van in the parking lot. One nice gentleman said, “We’re from Ft. Davis, we don’t see things like that here.” Another gentleman told me about his carpentry work (36 years) at the McDonald Observatory which is just up the road. It’s so nice to talk with local people!

After laundry, we shopped down the State Street which is highway 118 through town. We found all kinds of yummy pecans from the Davis Mountains Nut Company. They will ship orders, so we may have to try that later from home. I found some books at the Humane Society Thrift Store, then we were hungry and tried some delicious El Salvadoran food from the Munchies Salvadorenos food truck. Cheese/bean pupusas, chicken quesadillas and street corn were a fabulous lunch.

After lunch we returned to the Davis Mountains State Park to hike the Skyline Drive Trail (what, we could have driven up here???) and the Old CCC trail. Tony thinks they don’t need the “old” in that title as that is obvious for a 1930s initiative. Overall this hike was easier than yesterday’s. The CCC trail did have a washed out stretch that had been filled with grapefruit-sized stones which were uncomfortable on the feet but stopping the erosion. Great views from the mountain top!
