Beautiful wildflowers on the way to 1693 Distillery

by

With windy conditions coming our way again, we decided to leave San Angelo a day early and found a Harvest Host site just outside of Fredericksburg. They have a large field, and are already accepting several campers to stay until the eclipse. We are just staying tonight.

The highways here were lined with wildflowers, so we had a beautiful drive in spite of the wind. So many blues, yellows, purples and reds were a pleasant sight. Some areas had entire meadows blanketed with wildflowers in the grass around the trees. The Texas state flower, the Bluebonnets (Aunt Carole told me to watch for these) are definitely on display, but also joined by Indian blanket, Indian paintbrush, Texas sage, daisies, primroses and more. What a treat!

Lunchtime coincided with our driving through Eden, Texas. We enjoyed some wonderful Mexican food from The Burrito Lady food stand. She and her husband worked out of their home until they bought the food truck. It is now parked at a repurposed gas station and has both indoor and outdoor seating with many decorations and plants. They have been serving their delicious food for over a decade.

At the end of our drive, we enjoyed a peach cooli and a sweet potato old-fashioned from the bar at the 1693 Distillery and a big order of nachos from a food truck while we played a games of Gin Rummy Connect-Four.
