We walked for free today in a really nice city park a few miles from our campground. Lakewood has a dammed body of water called Soil Conservation Service Site 3 Reservoir. That’s official, but maybe the locals just call it Lakewood. This park has a very large and inclusive playground, a splash park (closed for repair but looks really cool), basketball courts, a big (and very busy) skatepark, kayak rentals for the reservoir, a fishing pier, a sculpture garden trail and a large oval of grass that looks perfect for concerts and the like. I was able to walk four miles on the trails here. I loved the sculpture garden, and there were many that were meant for interactions with the viewer. All artists were from Texas, except for the Mars Honor sculptures (four of them) that came from Kechi, Kansas, which is just north of Wichita.
