The KOA in Spearfish, South Dakota is a lovely place to stay in the Black Hills. We are just passing through, and will only stay one night. This is a nice one with clean bathrooms, separate shower stalls, and a path that connects to the city for walking or biking.

Spearfish Creek has a rocky bottom and is very clear. It meanders through town with a recreation trail near it and several parks as well. It was so nice to walk a few miles on this trail directly from the campground.
There are stations along the path between Evans Park and Kenadi’s Playground where the pages from Duck on a Bike by David Shannon are displayed. That is a family-friendly spot.
Jorgenson Park was notable because of the beautiful horse statues. It was dedicated to the “Last of the Old Time Horse Traders”, Arnold and Twyla Jorgenson by their family. Ol Buck must have been a particular favorite horse.
One house along the trail had kindness messages out front on a bench and at the mailbox with a bike—very cool!
I also had a moment to tromp in the creek; it was numbingly cold.
