Our day driving in the Eastern Fjords was a sunny, scenic, relaxing day of rest from the walking we did to see the sites of the southern side of Iceland. Route 1 follows along the fjords, in and out so that makes for a long but very pretty drive. Pyramidal-shaped mountains were along this route. We did have two tunnels, one that was 6km long, to go through the mountain and out to the next fjord for a shortcut.

The Laekjavik Nature Preserve has a beautiful beach, Fauskasandur, with a unique lonesome cubic rock, Stapi.

Djupivogur was the town we stopped in next and found with a nice restroom building, a pretty harbor and a souvenir store and food truck. It was nice to get out and stretch our legs and enjoy the sun with some lunch.

We got pictures of the fishing industry while driving along these long, narrow bays.

We began to see rock walls and cairns that marked ancient routes across Iceland.

Our stop tonight was in Egilsstadir after a couple of museums and a waterfall hike after supper.
