What to wear

by

At age 60, we did not feel the need to have cute outfits; we were more concerned with warmth and comfort.

Packing for wearing layers takes up a lot of suitcase space, so having quick drying pants and tops makes it easy to hand wash items at the hotels.

I specifically bought waterproof pants (Frogg Toggs) for this trip and they worked perfectly. They will come in handy for a future Alaska trip, too, and rainy days around the US. Martie wore 33,000 ft brand which were less bulky and Robert said they looked better on her than her Frogg Toggs. So we were a little fashion-conscious.

I bought waterproof shoes from REI that look and feel like tennis shoes. I also used scotch guard on my hiking boots.

Vests pack down for space and are a great layer for added warmth. My absolute favorites are from Kuhl; I have two as they only come in two colors.

Non-biting but annoying flies are near freshwater during the Icelandic summer. Bring bug nets to go over hats if you want to go on long hikes. Tony and I have used them in MN and at the Great Salt Lake.
