After spending the last month in Tucson, we are seriously considering returning to the southwest again next winter instead of going back to South Padre Island where we had spent the previous three winters. We really missed the beach and island living this year, but the weather in Tucson was more consistent with a lot less rain, wind, and humidity. To that end, we decided to spend a couple of more days in Tucson and check out the local KOA as a potential base camp for next year.

After a morning walk, Lisa and I said goodbye to our friends, Paul and Roxann, after a month living side by side at Crazy Horse RV Park. They are headed to one of the 55+ RV Resorts in Tucson that doesn’t allow campervans. It’s just as well, as we are ready to move on after getting a lot out of what Tucson offers.

The Tucson KOA is definitely an upgrade to Crazy Horse and a lot larger. We ended up in one of the larger sites on the parameter of the park. There was some traffic noise, so it we come here next year we would opt for one of the inner lots. We took advantage of the pool and hot tub, which were really nice. There is an onsite restaurant but we had had enough eating out for a while so we just fixed meals in the van. Like Crazy Horse, it also is just a short walk to Tucson bike trail. We took a long power one morning to start the day.

We’ll have to evaluate other parks in the area before making a decision for next year. As for this year…it’s on to Organ Pipe National Monument for a couple of days.
