Northern Nevada

by

Our journey to the west coast continued today. This was the furthest west we have traveled on I-80 in Usain.

Wildlife Crossings

The only really unique thing observed on our journey through northern Nevada were grass-covered, tunnel-like overpasses, that at first glance, didn’t seem to serve any purpose. Lisa guessed that they might be wildlife crossings, and a quick Google search confirmed her suspicion. A Nevada bill signed in 2023 appropriated more than 5 million dollars to help protect wildlife by continuing to add such structures.

“Although these look like the typical pedestrian bridge you’d see on the Strip, wildlife crossings are designed to mimic the surrounding environment using natural elements like grass, dirt and shrubs.” — Las Vegas Sun

Schussboom Brewing Company

We still have a couple days left before our first National Park stay. After searching for a place to spend the night in Reno, Nevada we landed on the Schussboom Brewing Company, a Harvest Hosts business. The other option was a gun and ammo store, but that’s not really our thing. Construction and heavy traffic delayed our arrival, but we were able to get there in time for pizza and drinks. Lisa had a lavender tea cocktail and I had a “Mars or Bust” red ale. We both enjoyed their Margherita Bonita pizza ($3 off on Mondays!). They had a nice parking lot out back that Usain shared with 3 other RVs for the night.
