Feb. 16, 2023: Brownsville, Texas. What do you do when your house on wheels breaks? I guess the beach was just getting boring so we “needed” some new excitement. We were driving to Brownsville in search of a USB to USB cord for the Volta system on Usain when we got a red battery on the dash display and had to pull over and stop the van.

First thing to do is to call the roadside assistance company to get a tow truck. Then you find a dealership to take the van. Then you send your husband on a mile+ walk to get a rental car while you pack up everything you might need out of the van for 5 days or so, including all of the food in the fridge that will go bad. You load up the cats, their stuff, your stuff, and more in the rental car from the second rental place (Enterprise was out of cars) your husband found by the freeway. Then you find a pet friendly hotel and wait for the tow truck.

Finally, you have a sleepless night worrying about things you forgot to do in the van. But kudos to the Lichtsinn Winnebago dealership in Iowa that is going to make the repairs happen. Excellent customer service on this one! And the beach is NEVER boring. 🙂 -Lisa
