When I started working again doing some parttime software development I needed a way to ensure I always had an internet connection. Prior to this I had installed a Pepwave router with an installed 4G SIM card and external antenna that sits on Usain’s roof (see my Pepwave Router and Antenna post). However, we found there were just too many places where there wasn’t any cell phone service. Fortunately, Space X had recently started a Starlink service specifically for RVs.
While Space X now offers a high-performance dish that can be permanently mounted to the roof, I have Dishy v2 that must be mounted on a stand or pole. I originally removed the cable TV port and ran the cable out through it, but recently cut the cable and installed RJ45 connectors to make it easier to set up. I also purchased a special Starlink mounting pole from FlagPoleBuddy.com that attaches to Usain’s ladder.
This is both an add-on and a mod because in addition to the Starlink equipment I had to change the external port from a standard coaxial cable TV connection to an RJ45 connection. I also had to do a lot of hole drilling inside to route the cable through the cabinets.
