Creek Crossings on Horseback and on Foot

by

I took a two-hour horseback ride from the stables at Blue Bell Campground and had so much fun with Ghost. I met a mom and daughter from Ogden, Iowa, right before the ride and we were in the line of horses together. The weather was perfect, and Ghost knew what he was doing. We went up and down rocky slopes, across meadows where mouthfuls of grass were grabbed and we crossed over the French Creek several times.

For lunch and an afternoon hike, we drove back to Grace Coolidge Campground. There is a “walk-in fishing trail” that was my favorite. The map says hikers will get wet. We discovered ways to cross dry, but that was never my option. – yay Chaco sandals. Tony soon joined me in the water crossings. We then stopped at a lookout along the way back to Blue Bell Campground. We knew our campsite was right next to a construction zone, so we were delaying going back to that noise. I read for awhile in the lookout structure with a really great view while Tony put in a couple of hours of work.

What a busy and fun-filled last day in Custer State Park. Tomorrow, we head toward home.
