With one more day of hot weather in the Medora area, we opted to drive into Montana and use our Harvest Host membership to stay at the Tongue River Winery in Miles City, MT. Our host, Bob and his wife Marilyn started their vineyard in 2005 to have something to do in retirement. Bob began making wine in college and is still experimenting with his grapes today. They were gracious hosts who explained the different wines and processes to make them. All of these wines are entirely made from Montana produce grown here. We left with three bottles – that’s about all we have room for in the van. The most interesting wine we bought was a Nouveau, a French style that is only fermented for a couple of months with CO2 and then released on the third Thursday in November. Tongue River Winery follows this tradition.

We stopped for lunch in Glendive, MT, which has a dinosaur museum right off I-94. I went in while Tony put in a couple of work hours. Before I bought my ticket, the volunteer at the counter explained that this was a Biblically explained museum. I thought, what the heck—lets see what they have to say about dinosaurs. They had some nice fossils on display and are currently digging in the Hell Creek formation. But, the “science” presented here is based on the Noah portion of the Bible. I didn’t even know where to start, but ended up having a lovely conversation with the director who really didn’t answer my questions. Tony just sings “Let It Go” from Frozen to me.
