Since we are in the Capitol city of North Dakota, we thought we’d visit the capitol grounds, and just happened to run into the 49th annual Capital A’Fair. We walked among the many, many vendors and ate kettle corn and wood-fired pizza for lunch. The capitol building here is a modern structure with a huge green space in front of it.

We visited Ft. Lincoln State Park in the afternoon, and plan to stay here tomorrow night. We visited the On-a-Slant Mandan village that was partially reconstructed here. At one time this village had 86 structures that housed a thousand people. Lewis and Clark wintered with them one season, though this site had already been abandoned by then.

The Missouri River is full of recreational boats as people enjoy their Sunday on the water. There are neighborhoods with water ways and docks beside the houses. It’s nice to see a river be used for fun like this!

We did our evening stroll around the General Sibley park where we are staying one more night. It has a nice nature trail around it and a wetland that looks perfect for kayaking.
