We did not expect to have to run the A/C in Maine, but it has been in the upper 80s every day so far. To keep the cats comfortable, we have to run the A/C, especially if we are not in the shade. Like any vehicle, the van gets hot really quickly in the sun even with window shades all around. Seventies and lower are okay, because we can pull in the cooler air with a ceiling fan. We ran our batteries down into the teens today keeping the van cool while Tony worked and I blogged. We haven’t had an electrical hookup for a couple of days. Thankfully the nights are in the 60s so we can open up then. Bass Harbor Campground is just down the road from Seawall and it has 30 amp hookups and laundry and showers. All services are welcome at this time:)

Wonderland is a short hike to a rocky shore that we enjoyed this morning. We walked to the hike so it became a four-mile journey from Seawall Campground before our checkout time. I also puttered around the Seawall beach and found a kelp that had attached to two black mussels before being washed ashore. Always finding cool things on the beach.

We moved to Bass Harbor, did laundry, then walked to a restaurant for supper. It was closed (just for the evening a hand-written sign said) so we walked on to Seaside Dairy Bar and Lobster Pound. I had ice cream and onion rings while Tony had another lobster roll to go with his blueberry brew. I’m an adult—I can eat this way…occasionally. Not a lot of vegetarian fare here. And walking is not advised. The cars do not yield or slowdown and there are no sidewalks. Everyone is expected to drive, but parking is difficult. There is a bus system—we’ll try that tomorrow.
