Taking the bus requires timing, but we didn’t have to worry about parking Usain. We also have to rely on a printed bus schedule and paper maps as cell service is very unreliable here. We packed backpacks and set out from our campground with a bus stop right there at 10:40. We switched to a different bus in Southwest Harbor at 11:10 and arrived at Echo Lake at 11:20. We either have a short hike and catch the bus at 12:30 or have a longer hike and leave at 2:30. We took the longer route which gave us time to tackle the strenuous first part of Beech Cliff trail. Rocks, sometimes with steps, sometimes not, and ladders provided fun while we reached the top to connect to the Canada Cliffs trail which winds through the forest, and eventually back down to Echo Lake. A short side trip on the valley trail took us to another parking lot for Beech Mountain. When we got back to Echo Lake we had over an hour to kill for the bus; Tony thought we could just walk back to SW Harbor in that time. We walk to the end of Echo Lake Beach Road to 102 to convince him it’s too dangerous. That walk made our bus wait shorter:)
