With Hurricane Lee promising some wind and lots of rain for Mt. Desert Island, it is time for us to leave. We had an awesome week-and-a-half in Acadia National Park!

We drove to Bangor to purchase my copy of Holly by Stephen King in his hometown. The Gerald Winters and Son bookstore downtown sells King books, movies and merchandise; very specialized. I now own a copy of his latest publication, just released after Labor Day.

The town of Bangor has a 680+ acre wildlife area set aside for public use with trails that include an elevated, mile-long boardwalk through a forested wetland and bog. That is a lovely and impressive walk. We did over three miles total by also walking wooded trails. Bangor City Forest is a great place to hike for everyone.

And a Stephen King fan cannot leave Bangor without driving by his house, even if that feels a little invasive. His family doesn’t really live there, and I hope his neighbors have come to terms with the extra traffic. It’s a beautiful home with a very personalized wrought iron fence and carved artwork from a tree that died. The tree carving is a little library nook with a writing desk, his dog Molly under the desk, books and cats in the hutch above, other critters, and an owl and crows at the top. The front “legs” of the desk look like human legs and feet which gives it a King feel, and I understand that there is a dragon on the back side.

We are using our Harvest Host membership to stay at the Winterport Winery and Penobscot Bay Brewery in Winterport, ME. We picked eight different wines to try with our two flights and purchased a bottle of Blueberry Fizzler. Did we remember to take pictures? Nope:(
