We drove to the mouth of the Colorado River where it meets the Gulf of Mexico. This is not to be confused with the Colorado River that originates in Colorado, creates the Grand Canyon, and dries up in the Mexican desert just shy of the Pacific Ocean. I didn’t realize there was another Colorado River, but leave it to Texas to do their own thing when naming geographic features. Our home for the next four days is the Matagorda Bay Nature Park, and it is right on the river as it meets the gulf. Very cool place!

Our first find on our walk on the beach was a red bundle tied with string. It was a gift sack with colorful pieces of cloth inside and some turmeric backed between paper circles. “Happy Diwali from the Sawalapurkar Family” was neatly written on the sack. We kept one of the little cloth bundles and tied the rest with the sack to a beach sign for others to discover.
