Rescue and Release of Kirby, the house gecko

by

I was taking a shower in the campground bathhouse, when I noticed what I thought was a smudge of dirt on the tile. Upon closer inspection, the smudge seemed to have legs and a tail—it was a teeny tiny house gecko that decided in this cold weather, that the bathhouse would be a nice spot. I took pictures to show Roxann, who promptly provided a container home complete with some leafy veggie samples. Paul got out his drill to put tiny holes in the lid, then Rox and I rescued the gecko from the bathhouse. Tony added a piece of cat kibble as that would be closer to wild diet than the veggies. The gecko was now set for the night in our warmer van. I sent pictures to Kyla, my former zoology teaching guru, who would appreciate this, and our kids. Bonnie promptly thought a name was needed, and provided “Kirby”. It takes a village to rescue a gecko!

It finally warmed up the next day, so I sent Kirby out into the world to make it on her own:)
