Savanna Portage State Park

by

We spent a very rainy afternoon and night in Savanna Portage State Park. Our campsite was really nice and set in the trees – did I get a picture? No…. We parked at the boat launch and dock to get better Dishy reception—did I get a picture? No…. I hiked the Bog Trail to the Bog Boardwalk while Tony worked – did I get a picture? Just one….and I had to hurry as the vampiric mosquitoes wanted to carry me off. Then the thunderstorm came.

The following morning, we went back to the boat launch area so Tony could work a bit, and I took a walk after bathing with bug spray. When we drove to the shower house to rinse off the bug spray, we found our shoreline power cord, surge protector, and lock chain all gone from our site. After a very frustrating search and with help from the camp hosts, we were told to come pick them up at headquarters. Turns out the maintenance crew thought we left them behind, though we had two more nights reserved here. The assistant head ranger graciously agreed to refund our two remaining nights; it all ended well as we drove off to the North Shore, our final destination. We have a reservation for tonight and will worry about tomorrow night later.
