There is a trail up the mountain behind the town that looked like part of it went up to the pretty fall foliage and part of it went up to a letter “L” on the hillside. We ended up hiking for about 3.5 miles, but did not make it up more than half-way to the “L” side of the hike. We should have stuck to the trees—looks like longer switchbacks, which were definitely needed. Ah, but we had a nice hot water soak waiting back in town.
The pools ranged from 101 to 112 degrees Fahrenheit. The 101 felt really nice, the rest felt hot. I dipped my feet in the 112, and Tony walked through it. It was too hot for both of us. The water is from a natural spring. They send it through the pools, and then it is circulated into the Portneuf River. It’s full of healthful minerals, and the website lists the quantities along with the health benefits. However, the minerals only do these things inside your body, so I’m not sure what I’m getting through my skin other than the lovely warm feeling of soft water with no sulfur smell. Very relaxing, and that is healthful!
