Wasatch Mountain State Park

by

We were able to get a walk-up campsite at Wasatch Mountain State Park for a couple of nights up in the mountains east of Salt Lake City. The weekend was all reserved, so we will make the most of our time here. I really want to see Utah Olympic Park, and will do that tomorrow.

This campground is on the edge of Midway with lots of beautiful houses and a lovely golf course nearby. There is a hiking trail called the Nature Trail that goes up beside a creek to a glacial washout. With the leaves changing color, this was a beautiful afternoon walk through the woods.

The gambel oaks along this path and in between campsites seem to grow like weeds. Dad mentioned that he helped pull them up at the gardens in Ft. Collins exactly because they were too numerous and close together. Darn squirrels are the main planters. The maples are turning red all around the mountains; the aspens are not yet showing off their beautiful golden color.

The weather here is warmer than we expected. It’s up in the 80s during the day, and low 60s at night. This is probably just a fall warm-spell.
