Book Exchange in Hofn

by

I’ve had a Little Free Library in my front yard for one year and I was very excited to find a book exchange in Iceland!

Martie and I wanted to see the Hofn Viewpoint before leaving the town of Hofn, and we found this book exchange very close to the parking for the Nature Trail and town sculptures.

I traded my copy of Night Road by Kristin Hannah, even though I hadn’t read it yet. I can get it from the library later; I wanted to participate in the book exchange. I had put a “book journey” note in it already, so someone will find a book from Ankeny, Iowa in Hofn, Iceland!

There was a mix of Icelandic and English titles in the box. I chose to take The Last Days of Summer by Vanessa Ronan. I have since read this book, and it is now out in my library box.

One curious thing I noticed about the Icelandic paperbacks in the box; the title and author on the spine are rotated 180 degrees from the way the English titles are. I started to “fix” the “upside down” books in the box and realized that the publishers had organized the spines differently. I didn’t know this, but Germany and some other European countries do this as well. I learned something new!

The Hofn Nature Trail has information boards for the solar system with artwork from children, all with a view of the harbor.
