Additional USB Ports Modification

by

We already have a couple of USB splitters in Usain to allow for more devices to be plugged in at once, but there never seems to be enough. We’re also starting to transition from USB-A to USB-C, which only adds to the challenge. To tackle the inconvenience I decided to hardwire additional RV-style sockets purchased off of Amazon that provide both A and C ports. I added 3 of these next to the existing one by the kitchen sink and then installed one above each of our custom bed baskets.

Additional Kitchen Ports

The existing ventilation grille next to the kitchen sink allowed me to install new USB ports by the existing one without having to remove the refrigerator. I’ve removed it before (Refrigerator Stability Mod) and it can be a pretty big hassle.

New Bed Basket Ports

The new USB ports above the beds was a bit more involved. They required me to create “blocks” just like the existing ones at the head of the beds to accommodate the depth of the sockets. Access to the wiring was very simple by removing the bottoms of the cabinets.

The entire process took more time than I expected, but we’re pleased with the end results.
