Door County — Day 1

by

Omro

After leaving Buckhorn State Park, lunchtime found us at the town of Omro, WI where we stopped at our first cheese shop, Rockers Cheese House. The sign out front said to ask “What do you call a three-legged cow?” So I did; answer is Lean Beef – ha ha! Note to self, when buying cheese that will be stored in a small fridge, get low odor cheese or wait to open it at home. I had to try the red onion cheddar, but the fridge smelled like onions for the rest of the journey.

To stretch our legs, we walked along W Main St and found a bridge to cross the Fox River. Tony wanted a sandwich for lunch, so Tanner’s Tap on Main provided him a lunch special of smash burgers that was cheaper than my side of onion rings. Yes, I have a thing for onions and it was a vegetarian option.

Potawatomi State Park

Potawatomi State Park sits beside Sturgeon Bay in Door County, WI. After parking Usain in the wooded campground, where lights inside are needed to see clearly in the daytime, we found a picturesque trail along the bay. We were hiking along a section of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, which is 1,200 miles long and winds through Wisconsin.
