Potawatomi Tower
A power walk this morning took us to the Observation Tower and Old Ski Hill Overlook, both along the Ice Age Trail that ends in Potawatomi State Park.

Pileated Woodpecker
On our way back to Usain, we saw a Pileated Woodpecker on the ground hopping around to scare up bugs. We got close enough for a picture. They are large birds with a call that is quite loud and almost sounds like a monkey.

Whitefish Dunes State Park
Whitefish Dunes State Park is on the Lake Michigan side of the peninsula and has a walking path to Cave Point County Park, the one place that my friend Renee insisted we see. Along the way we stopped at Grandma Tommy’s roadside shop with local food and gift items. Renee suggested this as a good place to go for single cans of local beer to try. Lake Michigan water is so beautiful. These were both good suggestions from Renee!

Door 44 Winery
After our walk at the parks, we tried our first winery, also on Renee’s list. Door 44 Winery and Vineyard serves the wine they make, all from local grapes and fruit. My absolute favorite was the Ice Cider which is made from frozen, concentrated apples – very sweet. A bottle will come home with us.

Catnip has a new harness that Tony picked out from the pet store. It is easier to put on and hopefully harder for her to Houdini her way out. She enjoyed taking me for a walk and smelling the smells.
