Sturgeon Bay Canal Lighthouses
After a morning power walk along Shoreline Road we left Potawatomi State Park to explore sites between here and Peninsula State Park, our home base for the next two days. As we drove toward Egg Harbor, we saw signs leading us to the lighthouses at the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal. Sturgeon Bay is an inlet on the Green Bay side of Door County, so a water way was dug through to connect the bay side to the Lake Michigan side.

The lighthouses sit at the entrance of an active US Coast Guard station, so our access was limited to just the concrete jetty that ends with the red light. The small green (starboard) and red (port) lighthouses help ships navigate into the canal — the much taller white lighthouse helps with navigation further out in the lake. The elevated walkway on the jetty gives a hint that water may be higher here in storms.
Egg Harbor
Egg Harbor has a main street of shops. We found parking at the Visitors’ Center/Post Office. Again, following my friend Renee’s advice, we found very tasty pizza at One Barrel Brewing Company. As the picture below shows, I did carry away our leftovers, but they didn’t make it back to Usain. Pretty sure they ended up in Greens N Grains Natural Foods, a shop that reminded us very much of a small Natural Foods store in Pine City, MN. Guess I’ll have to cook tonight.

Wood Orchard Market
Wood Orchard Market is right north of Egg Harbor and an excellent stop for all kinds of good things to eat, including freshly baked apple cider donuts and various fudge flavors. Roadside farm markets are along the main roads here, and each one is a little different. Tony especially likes all the free samples.

Peninsula State Park Arrival
After checking in (which at this date just means driving on in to your reserved spot) at Peninsula State Park, we walked on a bike trail to Eagle Point Lighthouse. It was closed for the day, so we will have to return later before leaving this park.
