Cana Island Lighthouse
Our final Door County lighthouse was the best one. Visitors have the option of riding in a wagon pulled by a tractor across the at-the-moment dry causeway to the Cana Island Lighthouse. A recent storm with strong wind took down some trees, so the woodland trails were closed, but we were able to walk along the rocky shore.

The causeway is rocky, so I imagine the wagon ride is really bumpy. With it being dry today, we walked the short distance to Cana Island. Bumper sticker on the tractor says, “Nothing swims better than a Deere”. Ha ha – must have been made especially for this tractor.

Bailey’s Harbor Farmers’ Market
Bailey’s Harbor near the Cana Island Lighthouse was having a farmers’ market as we drove through. I had a lovely conversation with a local children’s book author who talked about the wind storm in August. She mentioned neighbors with trees on roofs and loss of power. She fed sandwiches to everyone in her area as they didn’t know when power would be restored and she has a generator. Fortunately it was off for hours, not days. We enjoyed the edible treats we purchased.
Whitefish Dunes Revisited
We drove back to Whitefish Dunes State Park to walk the beach this afternoon. The park has one+ miles of shore, and the private beach after that allows for passage along the water. It was rougher today with whitecaps on the water making it very noisy. Just like an ocean beach but without the salty tang in the air, and dead butterflies rather than dead Portuguese man-o-war.

Door Peninsula Winery
We got in one last wine tasting this evening at the Door Peninsula Winery in unincorporated Carlsville. This is a huge store with free tasting of wine, Fat Louie’s Olive Oil, and other treats. There is a separate distillery as well, and so many gift ideas. It is definitely big enough to handle the tour buses, was decorated for Halloween, and had Halloween-themed wines like Frankenwine’s Monster, Witches Brew and Hallowine. Fun!
