Goodbye to Door County

by

After 6 delightful days in Door County it was time to head back home for more doctor appointments, ugh! Once again, we had to pull over and wait out a thunderstorm during our drive back to Iowa. Visibility was low, as we were constantly reminded by Google Maps all morning, and finally when we ran into rain, visibility was next to none for a bit. We and the kitties needed the break anyway so we waited out the storm in a McDonald’s parking lot.

One Last Winery

Rather than push all the way home, we decided to stop in Dyersville for the night at a Harvest Host site, the O So Good Winery. Turns out this is a very apt name, and we had a lovely evening. Their flights are served in test tubes with a wine glass and container of palate-cleansing crackers. This was definitely our first time for chemistry supplies used in presentation — very cute. They showed “Field of Dreams” on the large-screen TV, of course, while we sampled our flights and had dinner and a bottle of a blueberry wine. It had been awhile since we watched this really good movie with a handsome Kevin Costner and an excellent James Earl Jones character.

Reflection

It was an uneventful and stop-free drive from Dyersville to home. Tony remarked that this was a great way to enjoy Door County. During the days we did the touristy things amongst all the people (albeit smaller crowds this time of year) and the evenings and nights were spent in the country in mostly secluded forest settings.

Overall, this was a wonderful way to return to van life after a summer of surgeries, recoveries, and doctors’ appointments. May life return to more normal for Tony and me.
