California!

by

We left Lake Pleasant behind in Arizona and started making our way towards Joshua Tree National Park. We decided to split the difference and spend the night at The Cove RV Park along side the Colorado river on the California side. We had read online that California is picky about bringing fruits and vegetables into the state so we stopped for lunch in Quartzsite, Arizona which is about 20 miles from the border and ate the apple and carrots we had in the fridge. We still had bananas and fresh spinach that we were prepared to declare at the border inspection station.

Quartzsite

The road leading into and out of Quartzsite were lined with various RV parks and resorts as the snowbirds apparently drive the local economy. A couple looked nice and upkept, others not so much. There were also a lot of groupings and solo RVs scattered across the desert on presumably BLM land. RV traffic along US 60 was heavy. We certainly aren’t alone in wintering over in this part of the country.

Inspection Station

Traffic on I-10 slowed considerably as we made our way to the Arizona-California border. Signs warned us of the upcoming Inspection Station (trucks in the right lane, everyone else in the left lane). When we got up the the booth to stop we saw there was nobody there to stop us, so we continued on our way. I guess no one at the California Agriculture Bureau cares about our bananas and spinach today. 🙂

The Cove RV Resort

Calling The Cove a resort is a bit of a stretch. There is a small pool and river access, but its mostly just a bunch of people-less RVs in a typical RV park and storage lot. There is, however, a laundry room so Lisa took the opportunity to get our laundry done for the week. One less thing to worry about before we head into Joshua Tree National Park. One last thing…it is hot! Temps are in the mid 80s and the sun is on high setting. Not that we’re complaining with temps in 40s back home with snow in the forecast.

One response to “California!”
