Portable Dehumidfier Add-on

by

We’ve been to some pretty humid spots in the country over the past 18 months of traveling. The 2 months down in southern Texas were likely the worst. Since we’re planning on wintering on South Padre Island again this year, we’ve decided to give a portable dehumidifier a try. I’ll provide an update on its effectiveness in a few months.

How did the dehumidifier work? I need one in Louisiana and Florida for sure!

    1. Results were mixed. While it did work – collected a couple of cups of water a day – it didn’t do much in the way of reducing the overall humidity in the van. We had days of 70%+ humidity and it might have dropped it a couple of percentage points when running. The air conditioner does a much better job of reducing the humidity but sometimes the temperatures weren’t low enough to running it. I think it would do better in a small bath within a house and, although it’s small, I don’t think it’s worth the extra space it takes to travel with it.
