Forest Glen County Preserve

by

First thing Monday morning, we arrived at the Mercedes dealer in Davenport. We had made an appointment online, but we had to wait to get “squeezed” into the Sprinter technician’s already full schedule. They were super kind and worked us in pretty quickly. It probably helped when we moved the kitties into the waiting area with us 🙂 They ended up replacing a faulty EGR temperature sensor. Not sure what that is exactly, but it sounds important and was priced accordingly.

While we were waiting, we found Forest Glen County Preserve online. This is a small campground with a lake in a forest surrounded by farmland near the Illinois-Indiana border.

When we arrived, the park office was closed and we weren’t sure how to pay for a site. I tried to call the ranger station twice, but the call wouldn’t stay connected. We needed a walk, and the ranger found us when we returned to the van. He was super nice and helpful and our $18 fee seemed pretty cheap for a shady spot near the bathhouse.

This past weekend, the park hosted a Civil War reenactment, and we found some evidence of this on our walk. The park was very clean and peaceful—no traffic or train noise.
