While mods typically involve making somewhat permanent change to a camper van (see Usain’s Mods), an add-on is simply something added to to improve the van lifestyle. An add-on is an item that can usually be easily removed and taken into a house, say, while a mod may require tools to remove an item. Here are some of the add-ons for Usain, our 2022 Winnebago Boldt KL.

Custom Clothes Drying Rack Add-on
The idea for this mod came from a Facebook click-bait post for campers. I custom-made a clothes drying rack out of PVC that works both for indoors and outdoors. Obviously there isn’t room onboard Usain for a washer and drying so the clothes rack is needed for when we need to hand wash clothes or…

-
Window Vents Add-on
The Boldt comes with a very nice Maxxair fan in the ceiling of the van to draw air through the cabin. Unlike the rest of the windows, the 2 front door windows don’t have screens and sometimes its nice to get air flowing up front as well. In a pinch we can lower the windows…

-
Portable Induction Cooktop Add-on
We switch from using the Gas Camping Stove Add-on that we previously had purchased to a portable induction stove. The biggest headache with the gas stove was having to purchase the small bottles and worse yet was the fact that they go to a landfill when they’re empty. I had hope to eventually connect the…

-
Cat Kennel Add-on
When driving, our adventure cats stay nice and safe in their soft-sided kennel. It was designed with slots for seatbelts, but since we bungee cord it to the RAM Track above the bed we have to place it upside down. It really doesn’t make a difference and they don’t mind. 🙂 When we’re stopped and…

-
Vacuum Cleaner Add-on
This is one of our favorite add-ons — a small rechargeable Shark vacuum cleaner. Prior to this purchase we just used our cabin broom, but that was before our cats started traveling with us. Cat hair and litter is no match for the Shark WandVac. It fits nicely to the right of the sink and…

-
Camp Table Add-on
We’ve come across many different types of campsites where a picnic table isn’t available for our Portable Induction Cooktop Add-on to cook outside. There are also times when it’s handy to have a small outside table for other uses. We purchased a table from Amazon that is height adjustable and folds up enough to go…

-
Gas Camping Stove Add-on
Update: We no longer use this stove after replacing it with the Portable Induction Stove Add-on. Usain’s induction cooktop is very nice, but cooking inside the van creates a lot of heat and moisture so we cook outside as much as we can. We purchased a small Coleman camping gas stove that uses the small…

-
Fans Add-on
Fans are critical in a camper van to keep air circulating whether with the heat on in the winter, AC on in the summer, or even when using the MaxxAir ceiling fan. We purchased 2 smaller USB fans for each bed and a larger rechargeable USB fan for the galley. The bed fans clip on…

-
Mini Inverters Add-on
UPDATE: We had an issue with one of these inverters where it ruined the charging units of 2 different electric toothbrushes we had plugged into them, therefore, I removed both of these from Usain. I was able to get by with what I needed for outlets by adding additional USB ports by the galley and…
