Mosquitos and Pretty Sunsets

by
The wind died down and we walked out to a shelter for bird watching surrounded by wetlands. Please bring back the wind—the mosquitos were finding us. Just keep moving and slap when you feel something! We enjoyed feeling like we were surrounded by water at Matagorda Bay.

Christmas Day

by
And a happy 59th birthday to Tony! We spent the day relaxing and exploring the beach at Matagorda Bay. Tony did discover that his new toy, his drone, can handle the wind just fine. The shot below was taken with it, and the Colorado River is in the background. I can hear coyotes at sunset across the river, and…

And, finally, the coast!

by
We drove to the mouth of the Colorado River where it meets the Gulf of Mexico. This is not to be confused with the Colorado River that originates in Colorado, creates the Grand Canyon, and dries up in the Mexican desert just shy of the Pacific Ocean. I didn’t realize there was another Colorado River, but…

Brenham, Texas

by
We drove in rain to the Artesian RV Park in Brenham. We took some time to install some additional hooks for jackets and cat-proof (hopefully) screens on two windows. If they work, these screens, held in place with Velcro around the window frame, will prevent Catnip and Primrose from “falling” outside by making the open windows more…

Waco, Texas

Ali fixed us a Dutch Baby for breakfast which is one big popover and very delicious. We will have to try these at home! At Ali’s suggestion, we stopped at a book and music lover’s paradise in Denton. Recycled Books, Records and CDs in located on the town square in the old Wright Opera House. It just keeps…

To Texas

by
And on day three, we have arrived to Texas, where we will spend the winter. First stop was to the beautiful and inviting home of Darren and Ali! Darren, the consummate host, took me on a quick tour of the area to go get tea from H Tea O during their happy hour. This wonderful little store has…

To Oklahoma

by
Our next jog down I-35 landed us in Roadrunner RV park in Oklahoma City. They have a lovely new office, great room, and bathhouse building. The bathhouse closest to our site was cold, but a quick ask at the office fixed that right away. I took a walk around the well-maintained park, and Tony and I walked down…

To Kansas!

by
We finished loading up clothes and food and cats by about 10:30, and then we were off to Emporia, Kansas, which is about 4.5 hours down the I-35 corridor. This year the weather is a bit warmer, so Tony filled the water tank which involves doing it twice, once to sanitize, in about 15 degrees windchill. He…

Preparing to Fly South for the Winter

by
Preparations are officially underway to pack up Usain for another snowbird trip to warmer climates. Assuming that the weather cooperates, we plan to head out on the 19th after celebrating Christmas with the kids the weekend before. This also assumes that we can get Usain out of the shop. After replacing the front tires in…
